Cocoa

Cocoa is the main crop at Kayonga Farms. We started with 250 acres of Mercedes hybrid cocoa planted in June 2020. It takes 18 months to get the first crop, so we should have our first crop of cocoa early in 2022. Our goal is to be one of the largest cocoa farms in Liberia and have up to 1,000 acres of cocoa within the next 7 years. We are already in the process of acquiring more land for planting another 500 acres.

Currently, Liberia produces about 10,000 metric tons of cocoa beans a year, (0.2% of world production) from 40,000 smallholder farmers. We want to change that and make Liberia a huge grower of cocoa beans.
